Email Tracker Not Working on iPhone? Try This Checklist

If your iPhone email tracker is not showing an open, first check where you sent the message, whether notifications are allowed, and whether the recipient's app loads remote images. A missing alert does not necessarily mean the email was never seen.

1. Confirm which app sent the email

Start with the compose screen you used. Mail Tracer is built around Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad. A Gmail address configured in Apple Mail follows that workflow; a message sent directly from the Gmail app does not. The same distinction applies to an Outlook address in Apple Mail versus the Outlook app.

Open the Sent folder in the app you actually used and confirm the message appears there. If you switched apps, repeated a draft or sent from a desktop, the expected tracking record may not belong to the message you are checking. Review our iPhone setup guide for the normal Apple Mail path.

2. Check the account and message before blaming notifications

  • Verify the sending address is the account connected to Mail Tracer.
  • Confirm the recipient address and that the message did not bounce.
  • Check whether tracking was active when the message was sent.
  • Use a new test message rather than repeatedly reopening an old thread.
  • Send to a second address you control so you can vary image settings safely.

A controlled test separates account setup from recipient behavior. Open the test message once with remote images enabled, then repeat with them blocked. Record what appears in the app instead of assuming every inbox behaves the same way.

3. Check iPhone notification settings

If events appear inside Mail Tracer but no alert reaches the Lock Screen, the tracker may be working while iOS notifications are restricted. Go to Settings → Notifications → Mail Tracer and verify that notifications are allowed. Check the alert styles you want and whether sounds are enabled.

Also review Focus modes and Scheduled Summary. A Focus can silence or delay an alert without preventing the underlying open event. If Low Power Mode or background restrictions are active, open the app after the test and compare the in-app history with the notification behavior.

4. Understand image blocking and Mail Privacy Protection

Pixel tracking depends on a remote image request. A recipient who blocks images or reads a plain-text version can read the email without creating a detectable open. Corporate security tools can also fetch remote content before a person sees the message, producing an early or misleading event.

Apple states that Mail Privacy Protectionhides the recipient's IP address and prevents senders from seeing whether a message was opened. That means a missing alert and an unexpected alert can both be normal limitations, not proof that the app or recipient did something wrong.

5. Diagnose the pattern, not a single message

SymptomLikely area to checkNext test
No events for any testSending app, connected account or setupSend a new message from Apple Mail to your own second account
Events in app, no push alertNotifications, Focus or delivery settingsAllow alerts and repeat one controlled open
Only some recipients show opensImage blocking or privacy featuresCompare clients; do not pressure the recipient
Immediate or repeated opensPreviews, scanners, proxies or your own copyUse a clean test thread and compare timestamps cautiously

6. Update carefully, then contact support with evidence

Check the App Store for an available Mail Tracer update and install the current iOS update when it is appropriate for your device. Restarting the app or phone can clear a temporary notification problem. Avoid deleting the app as a first step because you should understand how your account and history are restored before removing local data.

If the controlled test still fails, collect the iPhone model, iOS version, Mail Tracer version, sending provider, compose app, approximate send time and what appeared in the history. Do not include message bodies, passwords or private client information. A concise reproduction is more useful to support than “tracking does not work.”

What should you do while tracking is uncertain?

Use ordinary communication. Ask whether the message arrived, resend an attachment when appropriate, and rely on agreed deadlines rather than open counts.
